Simple Sustainable Shopping...at your fingertips!
The Growing Green Co-op supports all aspects of sustainable living. We are a hybrid co-op featuring local green business owners (most of us are small, family-owned enterprises consisting of farmers, artisans, contractors, retailers, bakers, chefs, consultants, specialty service providers and more) and the consumers looking for the products and services we offer. Essentially, the co-op serves as a link between the two - helping consumers through the maze of "green" sustainable stuff while helping.... more

Sustainable Shopping in Style at The Growing Green Co-op

The Growing Green Co-op celebrates their annual Green Gift Marketplace in their new space located in Hartford adjacent to the Alchemy Cafe & The Trinity College Hockey Rink on Friday, Dec 5th from 6-10pm. The Green Gift Marketplace features local, hand-made, recycled, organic and creative gifts for everyone on your list! Meet "green" business members of The Growing Green Co-op and transform shopping mall trends of the past to new found environmentally conscious treasures at this community marketplace. The event is open and free to the public.

Pick your own organic Christmas Tree or holiday wreath from Eagle Valley Farms of Simsbury, sign-up for renewable energy options with Sterling Planet, recycle your outdated electronics, batteries and lightbulbs with Green Monster E-cycling and NLR (Next Level Recycling) and enjoy shopping in a stress-free, casual yet lively atmosphere. The co-op consists of multiple small business owners, artists and healers intent on maintaining the integrity of the "green" movement while growing the local economy. Their goal is to help consumers find their way through the maze of "green" consumerism by doing the research for them. Not only do they all offer quality products and services but are all actively committed to serving as a model for other businesses to "go green". Upon joining the co-op, each member completes a Sustainability Profile and sets individual goals to further their sustainable business practices in the upcoming year with the help of the Green Sleuth Consultants, green home and small businesses consultants who are also members of the co-op.

The evening will feature live music, tasty organic treats from Alchemy, chair massage and a raffle including an organic Christmas Tree from Eagle Valley Farms, a Green Consultation from Green Sleuths, a deep tissue massage treatment from Body Seasonings and $50 gift certificate from Alchemy. Choose from a wide selection of eco-friendly products: organic pillows and sheets from Janice's in Hartford, Helyn's Cleaning Solutions "green" cleaning gift baskets, Body Seasonings organic body care products & massage gift certificates, Hand blown glass from Downright Music & Art in Collinsville, stimulating games for kids of all ages from Brain-athon Emporium of East Hartford, beautiful, hand-made,recycled gloves & shawls from Woolen It Be Nice, salt crystal lamps, sustainable to-go containers (Kleen Kanteens & bamboo utensils) & stocking stuffers from the Green Vibration Eco-Boutique are just a few of the many great items being offered.

Imani, owner of The Green Vibration Alchemy Cafe & Eco-Boutique and founder of the co-op feels that "people are looking for ways to shop that they can feel good about. More and more people are looking to get back to basics and are seeking ways to simplify their lives and the "green" movement in its most authentic form is about just that." The celebrations start at 6pm and old electronics, bulbs and batteries will be collected the entire evening.
